Having established the world’s largest organic rose projects in conjunction with their fair trade partnerships, Weleda have built over 30 farms and harvested 600 tonnes of organic Damask Roses using no insecticides, pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. A portion of the money from the fair trade partnership has built a Kingergarten for the farmer’s children and created scholarships for those wanting to continue studying organic farming.

In ancient times, rulers believed oil from the damask rose was worth its weight in gold. The essential essence of the rose flower was considered so valuable by the rulers of the Orient they were not daunted by any price. The reason for this lies not only in its fineness, but also in the work that it takes to produce it – three million flowers need to be hand-picked just to produce a single litre of essential rose oil.
