Ethical retailer, LUSH Cosmetics joins fight for the Great Barrier Reef

Ethical retailer, LUSH Cosmetics joins fight for the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the ‘Seven Natural Wonders of the World’ and it is under threat. Queensland’s new state government recently approved an expansion to existing gas and coal ports planned by Indian conglomerates Adani Enterprises and GVK. This will mean increased dredging of the seabed and damage to surrounding plant and marine life, as well as an increased risk of chemical spills. This year it is all the more important that the reef be listed as ‘in danger’ by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee. The Federal government has moved earlier this year to ban all dredge dumping in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park amid concerns that the committee will consider the natural heritage of the region under threat.

From April 7th to April 15th LUSH Cosmetics and 1 Million Women are campaigning to save Australia’s priceless and fragile natural icon. Throughout the week-long campaign, LUSH will be donating all proceeds (minus GST) from the sale of Life’s a Beach body scrub (RRP $9.95) to 1 Million Women in support of their campaign to save the Great Barrier Reef.

Customers will also be encouraged to sign a petition to be sent directly to World Heritage Committee members Sheikha Al-Mayassa, Ms. Irina Bokova and  Ms. Julia Marton-Lefèvre and request that the reef be listed as ‘in danger’.

LUSH will also be hosting an art stunt over 3 days from April 11th to April 13th outside the Australian National Maritime Museum NSW.
