Of the 140,000 children living on the Gold Coast, almost one in three ended up in hospital in the past 12 months, some with dangerous infections, illnesses and life-threatening emergencies – and the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation is pleading for vital support to help these children.

The focus of this year’s Scrub Up September is children in hospital, supporting everything from the latest health research and purchasing medical equipment to assist with the treatment of children in a critical condition, to creating interactive play areas to provide much needed distraction in hospital.

Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa are proud to assist in raising much needed funds for this worthy campaign. Resort guests and visitors can donate directly within the Resort or via https://everydayhero.com.au/event/sus2019. Campaign mascot, ‘Betty’ will also visit the Resort on Wednesday 25th September activating additional brand awareness to the campaign.

“Money raised directly helps Gold Coast kids who are experiencing medical hardship and being treated in local public hospitals and health facilities - it’s important to give this support as you never know when your family might need the same support,” says Vicki James, Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Fundraising Manager.

Some of the initiatives supported by Scrub Up SeptemberTM include:

• Health research that aims to achieve faster diagnosis and better treatment of sepsis (blood poisoning) in children.

• The purchase of essential medical equipment like the Giraffe OmniBed designed to support and care for babies in a critical condition, CMAC equipment enabling clinicians to better view a child’s airways, and a nitrous oxide administration device to reduce sedation risks for broken bones and procedures.

• Interactive play areas and facilities to provide much-needed distraction for hospitalised kids.
