Jewellery from Peru
The Inca people from the area now known as the country of Peru were skilled craftsmen who made jewellery, masks, pottery and the like. Archaeologists have uncovered examples of their work, which have offered glimpses into the lives of these ancient peoples and their culture. Jewellery in particular was varied and detailed, and many factors influenced its meaning.

Materials
Ancient Incas made jewellery using llama leather and braided fibers. Jewellery makers used gold, silver, gemstones, good luck seeds called "hairuro," feathers and even seashells to decorate jewellery. Earrings and necklaces were the exception, and were fashioned from heavy pieces of gold, which in the case of earrings stretched earlobes sometimes to the shoulder.
