Pink Hope & Revlon: Together for Bright Pink Lipstick Day

Pink Hope & Revlon: Together for Bright Pink Lipstick Day

www.pinkhope.org.au

Wear, share and show you care

Women all over the country are coming together to pucker up for Bright Pink Lipstick Day. On September 28th, 2012, with the support of Revlon, women will be asked to wear a bright pink lipstick as a fun and funky way to raise awareness of genetic breast and ovarian cancer.

Pink Hope is a registered charity, established and founded by Krystal Barter in 2009 whilst recovering from her preventative double mastectomy. Krystal was only 22 years old when she discovered she had the BRCA1 gene fault that gave her an 85% chance of developing breast cancer. Barter’s mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all fought breast cancer at increasingly earlier ages so in 2009, when she was 25 years old, and with two young sons at home, Krystal had a pre-emptive double mastectomy. Having experi enced the isolation and lack of information for high risk families, Krystal created Pink Hope with the goal of providing unique and tangible resources.

In its inaugural year, Bright Pink Lipstick Day will act as an awareness raising campaign to inspire women to be proactive and vigilant with their breast and ovarian health. On Friday 28th September, 2012 – women all over the country will be asked to wear a bright pink Revlon lipstick, such as Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Love That Pink.

Revlon has always taken a global interest in women’s cancer issues through events such as the EIF Run/Walk in NY & LA, but saw a great opportunity to support and sponsor an Australian charity helping Australian women. Barter said, “The Revlon brand is a beautiful fit for Pink Hope. We are all about being positive and inspiriting the community and we are so excited to have Revlon on board as they are passionate about making a difference. There is nothing more important to Pink Hope than for our community to feel beautiful and inspired, and Revlon has been doing this for many years with their consumers. As for Bright Pink Lipstick Day, you couldn't find a more perfect brand when it comes to bright lipstick than Revlon!”

Beautiful Lengths - the Kindest Cut of all

Beautiful Lengths - the Kindest Cut of all

BEAUTIFUL LENGTHS CALLS ON AUSTRALIAN WOMEN TO MAKE THE KINDEST CUT OF ALL AND DONATE THEIR HAIR
National Donate Your Hair Week launches on Monday 12th November 2012

In 2007 I lost my beautiful younger sister to skin cancer. My daughter Lillian is 7 years old and has NEVER had a haircut! Lillian thought it would be a wonderful idea to donate her hair to the beautiful lengths program in honour of her Aunty and to help make a wig for someone who is battling cancer. Below are some pictures of Lillian making the Kindest Cut of all.

Lillian donated just over 36cm of her hair :)

The Beautiful Lengths program (www.beautifullengths.com.au);is the first of its kind in Australia to inspire women to grow, cut and donate their hair to be turned into real-hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment.

If you head over to the beautiful lengths website you will find stories of people pledging their hair, how to cut your hair and further instructions regarding where to send your hair donation.

A recent study by Pantene revealed that 90% of Australian women would be prepared to cut and donate their hair to help a friend with cancer and is now calling on women across the country to get involved and pledge their ponytails¹.(1. The survey of 1,025 Australian women aged 18 to 60 years was conducted by the Word of Mouth Company in July 2012.)

In partnership with the charity Look Good…Feel Better - a free national community service program dedicated to teaching cancer patients techniques to help restore their appearance during chemotherapy and radiotherapy - Pantene will fund the creation of real-hair wigs by helping women grow beautiful hair to donate to the program. These wigs will be distributed across Australia at no cost to cancer patients.

Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed before the age of 85².(2. Australian Institute of Health and Welfare & Australasian Association of Cancer Registries
2010. Cancer in Australia: an overview, 2010. Cancer series no. 60. Cat. no. CAN 56. Canberra: AIHW) Many people are aware of the physical and emotional devastation caused by the disease, and over half of Australian women will either be affected by cancer themselves or have a female friend or family member who is affected by cancer.

Actress Naomi Watts is joining forces with fellow Pantene ambassadors, beauty expert, Zoë Foster, and leading hairstylist, Barney Martin, to encourage women across the country to skip a trim and grow their hair longer and stronger before donating their ponytails to Beautiful Lengths during National Donate Your Hair Week in November.

Kicking off in Sydney on Monday 12th November, National Donate Your Hair Week will see hair donation events taking place across the country with women pledging their hair to the Beautiful Lengths cause.

Naomi comments: “I’m really proud to be part of Pantene Beautiful Lengths and bring this fantastic cause home to Australia. If we can support women undergoing cancer treatment by donating our hair, that’s a difference I hope many of us will make.”

Sally Harrold, National Program Manager for Look Good…Feel Better, comments:
“Look Good…Feel Better is proud to be involved with the Beautiful Lengths Campaign. This reflects the shared support of women we consistently see in action at Look Good…Feel Better workshops. Hair loss is such a significant element for patients at this time in their lives, and we applaud this initiative of Pantene.”

Mary Ann Azer, External Relations Director for P&G Australia said:
“As a worldwide leader in haircare products, Pantene is committed to giving back to the community. The beauty of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign is that it provides a way to make an enormous, real difference to the lives of women undergoing cancer treatment in Australia. By donating your hair to Beautiful Lengths or by simply helping to raise awareness of the program, you will be supporting women who have lost their hair through cancer.”

Join Pantene Beautiful Lengths and help support women battling cancer by growing your hair longer and stronger to donate. To us it’s hair, but to women with cancer, it’s hope.
